Carabao Cup: Carrick Names Who To Blame For Man Utd’s 3-2 Defeat To Brighton

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has taken responsibility for his team’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

United appeared to be in control after taking a two-goal lead at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, but they failed to maintain their advantage and suffered a late collapse.

Shea Lacey opened the scoring for the Red Devils before Mason Mount doubled their lead, putting United in a strong position going into the second half.

Brighton, however, produced a remarkable comeback after the break, with Charalampos Kostoulas, Pascal Gross and Maxim De Cuyper scoring to turn the game around.

Carrick admitted that there were several areas that needed to be examined following the defeat and said the team’s performance towards the end of the match was unacceptable.

“There’s a number of things that we’ll look at, we’ll dissect. I know quite a bit of where it went wrong, but we can’t accept that. We can’t accept that as a group.”

“I take responsibility for it. The performance towards the end of the second half,” Carrick said, accepting the blame for United’s collapse.

“We’ve got a big game on Sunday that we need to prepare for. It doesn’t feel good at the moment. We want to win, and we want to win quickly. The next game is Sunday. That’s all I’m thinking about right now.”
