The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 11 people in a multiple-vehicle crash involving a trailer, two cars and five motorcycles in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The accident occurred at Tashan Magariya Junction along the Gombe–Billiri road, leaving several other people injured, according to an FRSC incident report.

The report attributed the crash to brake failure, which allegedly caused the driver of a DAF trailer travelling from Gombe towards Yola to lose control and ram into two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorcycles.

The collision involved eight vehicles, including the trailer, and resulted in multiple casualties.

The FRSC said its personnel received a distress call at 5:32 p.m. on Thursday and arrived at the scene two minutes later to commence rescue operations.

The victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kumo, for medical attention.

The report also stated that 11 people received first aid.

Those injured reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries, including compound fractures, lacerations and bruises.

Following the rescue operation, the vehicles involved in the crash were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the police in Kumo for further investigation and necessary action.

The identities of the deceased and the current conditions of the injured victims were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.

The incident has highlighted the potential dangers of mechanical faults in heavy-duty vehicles, particularly on busy roads where a loss of control can endanger other motorists and vulnerable road users.

However, the precise circumstances surrounding the crash, including the reported brake failure and the final casualty figures, could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
