EPL Guilty Verdict: What I’ll Do If Man City Are Relegated To Championship – Maresca
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has suggested he would be prepared to lead the club back to the Premier League if they were relegated following a points deduction over alleged financial rule breaches.
Maresca pointed to his previous success with Leicester City, whom he guided to promotion from the Championship, as evidence of his experience in helping a team return to the top flight.
The controversy follows an independent commission’s findings concerning Manchester City’s alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons, as well as allegations relating to cooperation with the investigation. The club lodged an appeal in early October.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool, Maresca referred to his experience in the lower divisions, saying: “I won the Championship with Leicester, League One, we will see.”
The Italian also acknowledged the seriousness of the situation surrounding the club and said the team must remain focused on football.
“You cannot avoid it, we completely understand the seriousness of the situation. It is our duty, our job to focus on the games,” he said.
Maresca also expects a difficult atmosphere at Anfield, where Manchester City will face Liverpool amid the ongoing controversy. He stressed that his players must be prepared for the challenge.
