Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino has criticised Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes following the club’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City.

Manchester United suffered a shock loss in their opening game of the 2026-27 Premier League season, with Hull City scoring both goals from set pieces.

Defenders Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy were responsible for the two goals as Hull City secured an impressive victory.

Cascarino believes Fernandes failed to perform his duties as Manchester United captain during the match.

The former Chelsea player accused the Portugal international of disappearing during the game and failing to make a significant impact.

His criticism came after Fernandes himself expressed concerns about the lack of effort from some of his teammates during his post-match comments.
