EPL: He’ll Be Disappointed – Ray Parlour Knocks Arsenal Star
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has criticised Noni Madueke for failing to track back during Leeds United’s goal against Arsenal in their Premier League clash at the weekend.
Parlour believes the Arsenal winger will be disappointed when he watches the replay of James Justin’s strike, which gave Leeds the lead during the encounter.
Arsenal eventually recovered from a goal down to defeat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, securing an important victory despite conceding first.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Parlour insisted that Madueke needed to improve his defensive contribution. “Madueke has got to do better there,” he said.
The former midfielder explained that attacking players operating in wide positions must also take responsibility for their defensive duties, particularly when opponents move forward.
“I played in the wide areas at times, and you have to track your runners as well. As much as you like going forward, you have got to do a good job for your team,” Parlour stated.
He added that reviewing the goal would likely make Madueke recognise his mistake, saying: “He will be disappointed with what he sees there when he looks back at it.”
