Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has apologised to Aston Villa, the club’s owners and supporters following comments that prompted the Premier League side to take legal action against him.

The former England international had previously told Aston Villa fans to “shut the f*** up” while also criticising the club during a comparison with Manchester United.

Carragher made the remarks while discussing Manchester United’s managerial situation ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League meeting with Fulham on Saturday.

He had urged Manchester United to consider appointing Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as a replacement for Michael Carrick.

However, the former Liverpool defender has now acknowledged that his comments were inappropriate and issued a public apology.

“I’d like to apologise to Aston Villa, the owners & their fans. My language this week was clumsy & wrong,” Carragher wrote on X.

His apology comes after Aston Villa took legal action against him over the remarks, which attracted criticism from the club and its supporters.
