EPL: Rio Ferdinand names Man Utd player who must step up after Baleba’s injury
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has identified Youri Tielemans as the player who must take on greater responsibility following Carlos Baleba‘s injury.
Baleba sustained a hamstring injury during Manchester United’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma in midweek.
The midfielder was forced off in the 51st minute of the encounter at Old Trafford, with Tielemans coming on as his replacement.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the former United defender expressed his hope that Tielemans would build on his return to action.
“Great to see Tielemans back in. Let’s hope he continues,” Ferdinand said.
He added: “I think you look at somebody like him, especially with Baleba being injured now, you want to make sure he goes on a little run and gets some form, gets the level up and becomes a part of it.”
Baleba is expected to miss Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.
