EPL Table: Man City drop points after losing to Aston Villa
Manchester City suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday after losing 2-1 to Aston Villa at Villa Park, missing the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Nicolas Jackson scored twice to secure victory for Aston Villa, while Erling Haaland found the net for Manchester City. Haaland’s goal, however, proved insufficient as Villa held on to claim all three points.
The defeat ended City’s unbeaten start to the league campaign, having won all their previous matches before facing Aston Villa. The result also handed City an unexpected setback in their pursuit of another Premier League title.
Despite the loss, City remain top of the Premier League standings with 21 points from eight matches, according to the report. Their position, however, could come under pressure depending on the outcome of other fixtures.
Arsenal have an opportunity to draw level with Manchester City on points if they defeat Everton in their Premier League match later on Saturday.
The result will also provide encouragement for Aston Villa, who demonstrated their ability to compete against one of the league’s leading sides. Jackson’s brace proved decisive in a match where Haaland’s contribution could not prevent City from dropping points.
