EPL: What I told John Terry after taking his Chelsea’s iconic shirt number – Martinez

Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has revealed what he told club legend John Terry after taking the former captain’s iconic No. 26 shirt.

Martinez recently joined Chelsea from Aston Villa and was handed the No. 26 shirt at Stamford Bridge. Terry famously wore the number for almost two decades during his illustrious career with the Blues.

Speaking via Chelsea’s website, Martinez said he was already familiar with the number, having used it during loan spells at previous clubs. He also acknowledged Terry’s strong connection with the shirt.

The Argentina international revealed that he sent Terry a message on the morning he completed his Chelsea move.

“I’m wearing your shirt, and I’m going to do it with pride,” Martinez told Terry in the message.
