EPL: What Tosin Adarabioyo told John Terry about Chelsea boss, Xabi Alonso

Chelsea legend John Terry has revealed that defender Tosin Adarabioyo was left “gutted” after being told that he was no longer part of manager Xabi Alonso’s plans at the club.

Tosin joined Chelsea two years ago as a free agent from Fulham and went on to make 70 appearances across all competitions for the Blues.

However, the 28-year-old fell down the pecking order during Alonso’s pre-season preparations. He was also left out of the matchday squad for the manager’s first three competitive games.

The arrival of Maxence Lacroix and the emergence of young defender Josh Acheampong further reduced Tosin’s chances of regular football, eventually making him available for transfer before the deadline.

On deadline day, Tosin completed a move across London to Premier League rivals Tottenham in a deal worth around £7 million. He will be joined at Spurs by Mykhailo Mudryk, who has moved to the club on a season-long loan.

Terry revealed that Tosin was disappointed by the sudden end to his time at Chelsea, despite respecting Alonso’s decision.

Terry told GBFC: “I spoke with Tosin recently and asked him, ‘What did the manager say?’ He replied, ‘I’m just not in his plans.’

“He [Tosin] said, ‘I fully respect it. I’d love to prove him wrong here, but I’ve been informed that I need to find another club, and I’m gutted because I’ve only been here a couple of years.’

“Tosin is clearly disappointed by this situation, but the manager is very straightforward, being honest with the players and leaving no ambiguity whatsoever.”

Tosin will now look to make a fresh start at Tottenham, while Alonso continues to reshape his Chelsea squad according to his plans for the new season.
