EPL: ‘You’ve Made A Bigger Mess, Shut Up’ – Gerrard Attacks Man Utd Defender Martinez

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has criticised Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez following his outspoken comments about the club’s leadership and transfer policy.

Gerrard urged the Argentine international to remain focused on his performances on the pitch, arguing that his public criticism had worsened the situation at Manchester United.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, the former England midfielder acknowledged Martinez’s attempt to address the club’s problems but questioned the consequences of his remarks.

“So I admire the fact that he’s tried to be honest and open. He’s actually tried to protect Michael Carrick in a way, but he’s made a bigger mess,” Gerrard said.

He also referred to Martinez’s previous mistake against Tottenham Hotspur, involving Dominic Solanke, before delivering a blunt message to the defender: “He never said this after Tottenham when he made the mistake with Solanke, did he? Just shut your mouth and defend.”

Martinez had criticised Manchester United’s hierarchy over the lack of investment in new players during the summer transfer window. His comments followed the club’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
