Five Suspects Arrested Over Alleged Killing Of Benue Varsity Lecturer
The Vice-Chancellor of the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Timothy Terseer Alabar, has disclosed that five suspects have been arrested over the alleged killing of a lecturer of the institution, Prof. Gabriel Saawuan Nyityo.
Prof. Alabar made this known on Monday while responding to questions from journalists in Makurdi, Benue State.
Nyityo, a professor in the Department of History, was killed by suspected gunmen at his residence in Makurdi on July 7, 2026. His younger sibling was also killed during the attack.

The Vice-Chancellor described the incident as a major setback for the university, particularly the Department of History, following the death of the lecturer.
According to Prof. Alabar, security agencies have arrested five suspects in connection with the killing.
He said the suspects are reportedly from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, based on information provided by security agencies.
The arrests are expected to assist ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing of Prof. Nyityo and his younger sibling.
