LaLiga: Real Madrid player whose contract was terminated after Mourinho conversation revealed

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Dani Ceballos’ contract with the club was terminated after a brief conversation between them.

Mourinho explained that he informed the Spanish midfielder that he was not part of his plans shortly after arriving at the club.

Rather than remain at Real Madrid without regular involvement, Ceballos asked for his contract to be terminated so he could decide on the next step in his career.

“I spoke to him for three minutes on the phone when I first got here,” Mourinho said.

“I told him he is not in my plans.

“A lot of times players hold onto their contracts and say, ‘No, I want to stay.’

“But Ceballos told me if I’m outside your plans, then I’d prefer to be free to decide my future, so he agreed to terminate his contract.”

Following the agreement, Ceballos left Real Madrid as a free agent and eventually returned to his former club, Real Betis, to continue his career.
