Manchester United Rule Out Sacking Wilcox As Senior Players Agree With Martinez
Manchester United have ruled out the possibility of sacking their Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, despite growing frustration among senior players over the club’s transfer activity.
The development follows defender Lisandro Martinez’s outspoken interview after Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.
Martinez criticised the club’s lack of investment during the summer transfer window, specifically directing his criticism at Wilcox over Manchester United’s recruitment decisions.
According to reports, several senior Manchester United players share the Argentine defender’s frustration regarding the club’s failure to strengthen the squad sufficiently before the season began.
However, a report by The Times states that Wilcox’s position remains secure despite the reported dissatisfaction among members of the first team.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United’s minority co-owner, reportedly continues to hold Wilcox in high regard. Ratcliffe was present in Madrid for the Champions League defeat that prompted Martinez’s public criticism.

The report maintains that Wilcox is not under threat of dismissal, suggesting that the club’s hierarchy remains supportive of the football director despite concerns reportedly expressed by senior players.
