Messi Closes In On Record For Most Free-Kick Goals In History [Top 5]

Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi is now just two free-kick goals away from equalling the all-time record held by Brazilian legend Marcelinho Carioca.

Messi scored his 76th career free-kick goal as Inter Miami suffered a 2-1 defeat to Columbus Crew in the MLS on Sunday.

The 39-year-old has continued his impressive form from set pieces, scoring four free-kick goals in his last seven games for the club.

With 76 goals, Messi is now two behind Marcelinho Carioca, who holds the record with 78 free-kick goals during his career.

Messi is currently second on the all-time list, ahead of Jair da Rosa Pinto, who has 74 free-kick goals.

Roberto Dinamite is fourth with 73 goals, while Juninho Pernambucano and Siniša Mihajlović are joint-fifth with 72 each.
