Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to buy Spanish second-tier club CD Eldense.

According to reports, Messi is set to acquire 100 per cent of the club’s shares, giving him full ownership of the Segunda Division side.

The takeover is expected to have no involvement from any third party once the necessary due diligence process has been completed.

The deal is now waiting for formal approval from Spain’s Higher Sports Council, known as CSD, which is expected to ratify the agreement in the coming days.

Messi’s proposed takeover would mark another major step in his growing involvement in football business, particularly in Spain.

The Argentine superstar has previously maintained strong links with the country after spending most of his career with Barcelona and is expected to eventually return to live in Catalonia.
