MLS: Lionel Messi Fined For Slapping Sullivan
Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi has been fined by Major League Soccer (MLS) for slapping Philadelphia Union forward Quinn Sullivan during their 2-2 draw.
Messi and his Inter Miami teammate Ian Fray were both fined undisclosed amounts following the incident, MLS confirmed on Friday.

Fray was punished for making contact with an opponent’s neck during the match.
Messi had an impressive performance before the incident, scoring one goal and providing the assist for Inter Miami’s second goal.
However, the Argentina captain later became involved in a confrontation with Sullivan after the two exchanged words on Wednesday night. Messi then slapped Sullivan on the back of the neck.
Sullivan was also involved in the incident that resulted in Fray receiving his fine.
The match ended with two red cards during stoppage time after an off-the-ball scuffle. Inter Miami’s Yannick Bright and Cavan Sullivan of Philadelphia Union were sent off.
However, MLS announced on Friday that Cavan Sullivan’s red card and resulting one-match suspension had been overturned.
The league said its Independent Review Panel unanimously voted to rescind the sanction against Sullivan.
