NDLEA Uncovers Drug Warehouse In Edo, Seizes 1,359kg Of Cannabis

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, have uncovered a four-bedroom bungalow being used as a warehouse for storing cannabis in Edo State.

The raid took place in Illushi community, Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state.

The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed that two suspects, identified as 45-year-old Ojore Onweze and 30-year-old George Agwumede, were arrested during the operation.

According to him, Onweze was caught with 60 kilograms of cannabis, while Agwumede was found with more than 13 kilograms of the substance.

During the raid, security operatives recovered 52 giant bags of cannabis, three gallons of cannabis seeds and an additional bag of seeds.

In total, 1,273 kilograms of cannabis and 86 kilograms of cannabis seeds were seized from the property, bringing the total quantity recovered to 1,359 kilograms.

Ofoyeju described the discovery as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the state.

He expressed concern over the growing trend of using residential buildings to store illegal drugs, warning that such activities pose a serious threat to communities.

“We are pleased with the operational success recorded because the quantity recovered is massive. This raid shows our determination to dismantle criminal networks threatening the peace and safety of our communities,” he said.

The NDLEA commander also stressed the need for collective action in tackling drug abuse and trafficking, urging community leaders and residents to support security agencies.

He commended the Nigerian Army for its cooperation during the operation and called on citizens to play an active role in the fight against illegal drugs.

Ofoyeju added that investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals linked to the operation and ensure everyone involved is brought to justice.

He assured residents that the agency remains committed to eliminating drug trafficking and abuse across Edo State.
