NFF appoints Eguavoen as interim Super Falcons coach
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach of the Super Falcons ahead of the team’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
Eguavoen, a former head coach of the Super Eagles, will take charge of the Falcons for their two-legged second-round Olympic qualifier against Comoros in October.
He will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, head coach of Nasarawa Amazons, while the technical team will also include Ayisat Yusuf, a former Super Falcons defender, and Olatunji Baruwa, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer.

Nigeria will begin its Olympic qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with both legs scheduled to be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
The first leg is scheduled for October 9, while the return leg will take place on October 13.
Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the highest-ranked teams in the qualifying series.
Comoros, meanwhile, secured its place in the second round after recording a 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
The Super Falcons must progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to secure one of Africa’s two available places in the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Victory over Comoros will send Nigeria into the third round, scheduled for early 2027, where the Falcons will face either DR Congo or Morocco.
The appointment marks the first time Eguavoen will take charge of a women’s national football team in his managerial career.
His emergence as interim coach comes a few weeks after Justine Madugu was dismissed as head coach of the Super Falcons along with his technical crew.
The decision followed the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
It will be the first time the Super Falcons have failed to qualify for the Women’s World Cup since the tournament was inaugurated in 1991.
