Transfer: Alonso identifies midfielder to sign as Enzo Fernandez’s replacement at Chelsea
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has identified Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as a potential replacement for Enzo Fernandez if the Argentine leaves Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window closes.
Fernandez is reportedly edging closer to joining Manchester City, with City manager Enzo Maresca keen to reunite with the midfielder after previously working with him at Chelsea.
Speculation over Fernandez’s future intensified on Thursday night when the 25-year-old was left out of Chelsea’s squad for their 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Luton Town.
According to Foot Mercato, Alonso has now stepped up his efforts to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco.
Chelsea have joined Liverpool and Crystal Palace in the race for the Senegal international, who has attracted interest following his performances in France.
The report claims that Alonso has already made enquiries about the 22-year-old midfielder, while Camara is reportedly open to a move to Chelsea.
Should Fernandez complete his proposed transfer to Manchester City, Chelsea could move quickly to bring in Camara as part of Alonso’s plans to strengthen and reshape the midfield.
