Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has revealed how he convinced Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior to reject a move to Arsenal and remain at the Spanish club.

Vinicius returned from the 2026 World Cup break with uncertainty surrounding his future, with just one year remaining on his contract at Real Madrid.

Arsenal had reportedly shown strong interest in signing the Brazil international and were prepared to make a huge financial offer for him.

However, Vinicius eventually agreed to sign a new contract with Real Madrid.

Speaking in an interview with El Chiringuito, Mourinho revealed the advice he gave the winger during discussions about his future.

Mourinho said he reminded Vinicius that he had spent his entire European career at Real Madrid after leaving Brazil and encouraged him to remain at the club.

“All I told him was: ‘Vini, where do you want to go? You have been in Brazil, and then came straight to Madrid. You know nothing but Madrid. You will only know what Real Madrid is once you leave.

“Once you leave, you will know what was Real Madrid. Don’t go, it’s not worth it,’” Mourinho said.
