Transfer: ‘I can’t guarantee anything’ – Alonso speaks on Pedro Neto, Fernandez leaving Chelsea
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has admitted that he cannot guarantee Pedro Neto will remain at Stamford Bridge this season amid growing interest in the Portugal international.
Neto has attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Al-Hilal, with the transfer deadline approaching.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 4-3 victory over Brighton on Sunday, Alonso praised Neto’s performance but refused to rule out a possible departure.
“No, in football, I don’t guarantee anything, not anyone. But I was very happy with Pedro. He did really well; he played with a lot of energy,” Alonso said.
The Chelsea boss described Neto as an important player because of his pace, strength, ability in one-on-one situations and movement in space.
Alonso also spoke about Enzo Fernandez, who was again left out of the squad against Brighton amid reports linking him with a move to Manchester City.
“We’ll see. We want the best for the team, and that’s why we made the decision against Luton and today,” Alonso said.
