Barcelona are reportedly considering a surprising move to bring former striker Robert Lewandowski back to the club.

Lewandowski left Barcelona this summer after helping the Spanish champions and subsequently joined MLS side Chicago Fire.

However, Barcelona are now considering contacting Chicago Fire about a possible short-term loan deal for the Poland international.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the move could happen if Barcelona fail to sign their main striker targets before the transfer window closes.

Romano wrote on X:

“Barcelona are internally discussing a sensational shock return for Robert Lewandowski!

“Understand the Barça board is considering approaching Chicago Fire for a short-term loan deal if they fail to secure their primary striker targets in the final days of the window.

“Hansi Flick is 100% open to having Lewandowski back as an emergency option for one more season. No formal bid yet, but it is now seriously on the table as a crazy Plan B.”

Barcelona are looking for another attacking option after selling Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain.

The club are also reportedly struggling to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez, which has increased the possibility of Lewandowski returning to the Camp Nou.
