Transfer: ‘We don’t have that’ – Rio Ferdinand warns Man United against selling most consistent player

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club not to replace Luke Shaw directly, but instead sign a younger left-back who can gradually take over from him.

Shaw has faced criticism following United’s poor start to the season, including their 2-0 defeat to Hull City. The 31-year-old also struggled against Ipswich Town, with Abdul Fatawu beating him before Leif Davis opened the scoring.

United, however, recovered to win 5-2 at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand defended Shaw, describing him as one of Manchester United’s most consistent players over the past year.

“Luke Shaw, over the last year, has been one of our most consistent performers,” Ferdinand said.

He advised United to sign a left-back who can gradually develop into Shaw’s replacement rather than immediately pushing the England international out of the team.

“Go and get a left-back that we want to actually bed in over time to be a replacement for someone like Luke Shaw,” he added.

Ferdinand also warned that finding a direct replacement could be expensive, saying United could have to spend around £60 million in the transfer market.
