Transfer: Xabi Alonso Separates Four First-Team Players From Chelsea Training Group
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has separated four first-team players from his main training group as the club continues to deal with a large squad and uncertainty over the players’ futures.
The players are Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap, Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo.
According to Sky Sports, the current situation is different from last season, when players such as Raheem Sterling and Disasi were placed in a so-called “bomb squad” made up of players who were not part of the manager’s plans.
Those players trained at different times and were also required to use the academy facilities.
However, this time, the separate group is training at the same time as the rest of the Chelsea squad and is allowed to use the same facilities at the club’s Cobham training ground.
Chelsea currently have more than 40 senior players on their books. The club believes dividing the squad into two groups is necessary to maintain the quality and effectiveness of training sessions.
Chelsea are also handling the situation carefully following FIFA’s introduction of new rules this summer. The rules effectively prevent clubs from creating “bomb squads” and deliberately isolating players who are not wanted.
