UCL: ‘He’s an animal’ – Fernández opens up on Haaland’s attitude after Man City win over Porto

Manchester City midfielder Enzo Fernández has described teammate Erling Haaland as an “animal” and a “beast” after their 2-0 Champions League victory over FC Porto on Tuesday.

Haaland scored both goals in the second half, helping City begin their European campaign with an important away victory.

The Norwegian opened the scoring after connecting with a cross from Fernández and finishing from close range.

Haaland then added his second goal during stoppage time, expertly redirecting a pass from Rayan Aït-Nouri with his right foot.

Speaking after the match, Fernández praised Haaland’s mentality and revealed that he will always look for the striker when he is on the pitch.

“Erling Haaland is an animal, a beast. Every time I step onto the pitch, I will look for him, and I hope to provide him with many more assists so he can score goals like that.

“It’s not only about the player he is — he is also an incredible human being and has truly welcomed me into the club.”

The match was Fernández’s Champions League debut for City following his move from Chelsea, while Haaland’s brace means Porto have become the 22nd different team he has scored against in the competition.
