UCL: ‘It’s unfair’ – Ahmet Çakar rejects Man of the Match award to Osimhen, names deserving players
Former Turkish referee Ahmet Çakar has questioned Victor Osimhen’s selection as Man of the Match following Galatasaray’s 4-2 victory over Lille in the Champions League.
Çakar believes three other players made stronger contributions and deserved to receive the individual award ahead of the Nigerian striker. His comments have sparked debate over the decision to recognise Osimhen for his performance.
Osimhen scored Galatasaray’s fourth goal against the French side at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, registering his first goal against Lille. His contribution helped the Turkish club secure an important victory away from home.
Following the match, Osimhen was named Man of the Match in recognition of his performance for Galatasaray, popularly known as the Yellow-Reds. However, Çakar disagreed with the selection, arguing that other players also played important roles in the win.
Speaking on the BTV YouTube channel, Çakar expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision and identified Barış Alper Yılmaz, Batrakov and Yunus Akgün as players who deserved consideration.
“It’s unfair that Osimhen was chosen as man of the match,” Çakar said, via habersarikirmizi.

He added, “Osimhen didn’t play badly, but there are Barış Alper Yılmaz, Batrakov and Yunus Akgün.” Despite the disagreement over his award, Osimhen has enjoyed an impressive season, recording seven goals and three assists in eight matches across all competitions for Galatasaray.
