UCL: Real Madrid’s midfield was weak – Mourinho reacts to 2-1 win over Inter Milan
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has praised his team after they defeated Inter Milan 2-1 in Tuesday’s Champions League clash at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Mourinho went into the match without suspended midfielders Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler and Eduardo Camavinga, leaving him with limited options in the middle of the pitch.
Despite the absences, Real Madrid made a strong start as Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring before Federico Valverde doubled their advantage.
Inter Milan responded through Carlos Augustus, setting up a tense finish as the Italian champions pushed for an equaliser.
Speaking after the match, Mourinho praised his players for securing the victory despite the difficulties they faced in midfield.
“The players did a fantastic job, and they won a tough match under tough conditions, with weakness in our midfield, and a lot of intensity.
“It wasn’t a boring match. And we could have gone 3-0 in the last minute of the first half, and maybe turned 3-0 into 4-0 or 5-0.”
