“Why I Turned Down ₦7.5M” – Nollywood Actor, Afeez Oyetoro Gives Reason For Rejecting Lucrative Offer In 1999

Nollywood actor and lecturer, Afeez Oyetoro, has revealed why he turned down a ₦7.5 million offer from a betting company in 1999.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor said the offer was attractive, but he rejected it because the deal involved promoting gambling.

Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, explained that he was deeply devoted to his faith at the time and regularly cautioned his students against betting, smoking and drinking alcohol.

According to the actor, accepting an offer to promote betting would have contradicted what he was teaching his students.

However, he revealed that the same agent who initially brought the betting deal later offered him a ₦5 million contract for six months.

The contract involved travelling around the country, with the company responsible for his feeding and accommodation expenses.

Oyetoro said he eventually received the agreed payment after completing the six-month contract.

“It’s a six months contract. He moved round the company. After I finished, they handed over the money to me,” he added.

Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, is a Nigerian comic actor, lecturer and scholar.

He was born on August 20, 1963, in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, southwestern Nigeria.

Oyetoro holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan.

He rose to national prominence in 2013 after featuring in an MTN commercial where he popularised the phrase “I don port o” as part of the company’s mobile number porting campaign.
