Why Mikel Arteta blocked Arsenal’s move to sign Joao Pedro

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly blocked the club from making a move for Chelsea striker Joao Pedro during the summer transfer window.

According to BBC Sport, Pedro was included on Arsenal’s list of potential attacking targets as the Gunners considered bringing in another striker.

Arteta was open to signing a new forward after Viktor Gyökeres struggled for consistency during his first season at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal also considered other options, including Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. However, the Argentina international was reportedly reluctant to return to the Premier League and preferred a move to Barcelona.

Arsenal officials also showed interest in Pedro after his impressive first season at Chelsea. The Brazilian scored 20 goals across all competitions and quickly became an important part of the Blues’ attack.

Pedro has continued his good form this season, scoring twice in his first four appearances.

However, his performance was less influential when Chelsea faced Arsenal on Sunday, with the Gunners securing a 2-1 victory.

Despite Pedro’s impressive numbers, Arsenal ultimately decided against making an official offer for the striker.

The decision was reportedly influenced by Arteta’s concerns over whether Pedro would be able to adapt and integrate effectively into his tactical system.

The Arsenal boss is believed to have considered the striker’s playing style and how well he would fit into the demands of his team before deciding not to pursue the transfer.
