Woman steals newborn in Kaduna

A newborn baby has been stolen from a house in Sabon Gari New Extension, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Sunday when a woman, who was said to be a stranger to the family, visited the house and claimed to be a distant relative of the baby’s father.

Details of the incident remained sketchy as of press time but it was gathered from local sources that the suspect was said to have introduced herself as a distant relation from the father’s side, a claim which reportedly made the baby’s mother comfortable in her presence.

The woman allegedly used the opportunity to gain the mother’s confidence before leaving the house with the baby.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the command had commenced investigation to track down the suspect and recover the baby.

He said the police were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the woman involved.
