Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 Ballon d’Or season voted best in award’s history [Top 5]
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or-winning season in 2008 has been voted the best in the history of the prestigious award following a public poll organised to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
The poll invited football fans to select their favourite season by a Ballon d’Or winner, with Ronaldo’s 2007–08 campaign finishing ahead of several outstanding seasons produced by the game’s biggest stars.
Lionel Messi’s 2012 season secured second place, while Ronaldo’s 2017 campaign finished third in the public vote.
Messi’s 2023 season claimed fourth position, with Ronaldo’s 2016 campaign completing the top five.
Ronaldo’s winning campaign came during his time at Manchester United in the 2007–08 season, when he scored 42 goals in all competitions, including 31 in the Premier League and seven in the Champions League.
During that campaign, Manchester United won both the Premier League and the Champions League. Ronaldo also scored in the Champions League final against Chelsea, further strengthening his case for the Ballon d’Or, which he won in 2008.
