Academics in C’ River back Tinubu, Otu for re-election
Academicians, under the aegis of Concerned Academics of Cross River (COCAS), has affirmed its support for the re-election of Pres. Bola Tinubu and Gov. Bassey Otu, citing their developmental strides.
The group made the remark at a Press Conference on Tuesday in Calabar and commended the President for advancing education through his policies.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr John Imoke, COCAS Co-ordinator, said that in the last two years, the President had focused on food security as a strategy to fight poverty and malnutrition among women and children.
Imoke noted that the global hunger and poverty index reflected improvement in Nigeria, attributing this partly to a decline in terrorist attacks and better national security.
He commended the present administration for tackling insurgency, explaining that reduced Boko Haram activity had enabled farmers to return to their lands and rebuild local economies.
“For just two years, the administration has recorded visible security progress; this is reason enough for continuity and consolidation,” he said.
He praised Otu’s emphasis on funding existing educational institutions and prioritising staff welfare, describing him as ‘’a leader who listens to the academic community’s concerns.’’
He highlighted the transformation of the College of Education, Akamkpa into the University of Entrepreneurship and Education, reflecting Otu’s foresight and commitment to academic excellence.
“The governor’s re-establishment of the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Ogoja is a strategic move to strengthen technical and agricultural education.
“We also applaud Otu for the accreditation of Colleges of Nursing in Obudu, Ogoja, and Calabar; the upgrades enhance healthcare training and expand admission opportunities,” he noted.
Also speaking, Dr Justin Beshel, the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, said the state recently won a national award as the best in Science and Technology and Best in Digital Innovation.
Beshel highlighted improvements at the Obudu Mountain Resort, including restored power, water supply, and other infrastructures, describing it as evidence of renewed confidence in the state.
He lauded the establishment of an Agricultural Research Institute in Obanliku, noting that it would complement the state’s new College of Agriculture and drive innovation.”Returning my focus to Calabar, I see visible infrastructural renewal which is transforming the capital into a cleaner, more vibrant city that reflects the governor’s development vision,” he said.

Describing the lawmaker as the engine room coordinator of nationwide mobilisation efforts, the group credited him with bridging ethnic, regional, and ideological divides, galvanising party structures, and sustaining momentum even amid intense opposition.
“Despite daunting challenges, he never flinched. His strategic mind, tireless work ethic, and unshakeable belief in Asiwaju’s vision were decisive factors in delivering the Tinubu-Shettima victory,” the statement added.
RHAN also underscored Hon. Faleke’s legendary loyalty, noting that for over two decades he has remained a consistent pillar of support for President Tinubu across multiple political battles and campaigns.
“In an era when political fidelity is increasingly rare, Rt. Hon. Faleke stands out as a shining example of principle, sacrifice, and steadfastness.
“His faithfulness has inspired countless party members and remains one of the strongest proof to the enduring bond between him and our President,” Opialu remarked.
On the legislative front, the statement celebrated Faleke’s distinguished record as the representative of Ikeja Federal Constituency.
Looking ahead, RHAN expressed confidence that Faleke’s wealth of experience will now supercharge grassroots engagement, strengthen party structures in the South West, and deepen national support for the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are convinced that this appointment will inject fresh energy into our mobilisation efforts and set the stage for even greater electoral and governance successes in the years ahead,” Opialu concluded.
The Renewed Hope Advocacy Network wished Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke “resounding success” in his new assignment and prayed for continued wisdom, strength, and divine guidance as he discharges his duties.
