Police Rescue Four Abducted Teenage Girls in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has rescued four teenage girls who were abducted by suspected criminals in Fika Local Government Area following a joint operation involving police officers and local vigilantes.

The command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed in a statement that the incident occurred on June 28, 2026, after the Fika Divisional Headquarters received a distress call reporting that unidentified armed men had attacked Didim Village and abducted four girls.

According to the police, all four victims were minors between the ages of 15 and 17.

Abdulkarim said officers attached to the Kukar Hadu Police Outstation, working alongside local vigilantes and supported by reinforcements from the Fika Divisional Headquarters, immediately launched a rescue operation that led to the safe recovery of all four victims.

The rescued girls were taken to the Kukar Hadu Primary Healthcare Centre, where they received medical attention and other necessary support before being reunited with their families.

The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the members of the criminal syndicate responsible for the abduction, adding that security operations have been intensified across the area.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed sustained intelligence-led operations to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.

Missing Man Found Dead at Illegal Mining Site in Plateau

The body of a man who was earlier reported missing has been found at an illegal mining site in Jos South Local Government Area.

The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X.

According to Zagazola, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) Sector 3 responded to a report at about 7:30 a.m. on June 29 that a man identified as Jerry had gone missing from the Rantya area.

The troops, working alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), launched a search operation in the surrounding bushes.

During the operation, the search team discovered the victim’s body at an illegal mining site. According to the report, the deceased had sustained gunshot wounds as well as machete cuts.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Jerry had left home to engage in illegal mining activities but failed to return, prompting his relatives to report him missing.

Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

Kano Court Remands Nursing Mother Over Alleged Killing of Newborn

A Magistrate Court in Kano has remanded a nursing mother, Jummai Ahmad, in a correctional facility over allegations of conspiring to kill her newborn baby.

The order was issued by Chief Magistrate Haulatu Magaji Kankarofi after the defendant was arraigned by the police on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

According to the prosecution, the case was reported to the police by the Village Head of Gama E area, where the defendant resides. Prosecutors alleged that Jummai conspired with her mother to kill the baby she had recently given birth to out of wedlock.

The prosecution further informed the court that Jummai’s mother is currently on the run after allegedly fleeing before she could be arrested.

The court ordered that Jummai remain in custody pending further proceedings, while security agencies continue efforts to apprehend the second suspect.

DSS Frees Farmer Cleared of Boko Haram Links, Pays ₦3 Million Compensation

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a farmer, Nura Idris, after an investigation found no evidence linking him to the Boko Haram insurgent group.

According to reports, the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered Idris’ release and approved a compensation payment of ₦3 million to help him rebuild his life and business.

Idris, a farmer and herder from Soba Local Government Area, was arrested in Suleja in 2024 over allegations of having links to terrorists before he was handed over to the DSS.

A review panel set up by the agency later found no evidence connecting him to terrorist activities, leading to an immediate order for his release.

Speaking after regaining his freedom, Idris commended the DSS leadership for the way he was treated while in detention. He said the ₦3 million compensation would help him restart his life and farming business.

Security sources also disclosed that the DSS is reviewing old detention cases involving individuals who have been held for long periods to ensure innocent people are not kept in custody unnecessarily.

According to the reports, more than 30 people whose cases have been reviewed have received over ₦300 million in compensation, as part of the agency’s efforts to protect citizens’ rights while maintaining national security.
