AFCONQ: Chelle Gives Reason For Maduka Okoye’s Late Arrival To Super Eagles Camp

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has explained the reason behind goalkeeper Maduka Okoye’s late arrival at the team’s training camp in Uyo.

Okoye arrived on Thursday after receiving permission to delay his arrival due to personal and family matters. He was the final player to join the squad ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Friday.

The Udinese goalkeeper’s late arrival attracted attention after he was spotted with American rapper Cardi B in Milan, Italy, before travelling to Nigeria.

Chelle, however, explained that Okoye had other commitments with his club before joining the national team camp.

“I can tell you the truth. He was supposed to come [earlier], but he had to do some things for his club,” Chelle told the media.

The Super Eagles coach added that he would assess the situation before deciding whether Okoye would feature against Madagascar.

“I will manage the situation and make my decision,” he said.

It remains unclear whether Okoye will start in goal for Nigeria, as he missed training sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before eventually joining the squad on Thursday.
