Carabao Cup: Benjamin Fredrick Poised For Brentford Debut

Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick is in line to make his competitive debut for Brentford in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup clash against Reading.

Fredrick initially joined Brentford on loan from Simoiben Football Academy in August 2023 before the move was made permanent in April 2024.

The 21-year-old subsequently signed a four-year contract with the Premier League club and has been included in Brentford’s matchday squad twice in the past.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews has confirmed that Fredrick will feature against Reading after being left out of the B team’s game on Sunday.

“He (Fredrick) hasn’t had a lot of football. We decided not to play him yesterday (Sunday) in the B team game to make sure he was in the right place to be available (today),” Andrews told a press conference.

“I anticipate he’ll be involved,” the Brentford manager added, further raising expectations that the Nigerian defender will finally make his competitive appearance for the club.

Fredrick spent last season on loan at Belgian club Dender EH but suffered an injury while on international duty with Nigeria last November, forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
