EPL: Alonso Talks About His New Chelsea Midfield Partnership After 5-1 Win Over Bournemouth

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised the midfield partnership between Moisés Caicedo and Jordan Henderson following the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Henderson and Morgan Rogers both scored twice, while João Pedro also got on the scoresheet as Chelsea returned from the international break with an impressive win.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Alonso discussed how Caicedo and Henderson worked together, highlighting their complementary qualities and understanding of the game.

“Both, in terms of qualities, are different, and in terms of positioning as well. I think that they help each other well and they give presence, they give stability,” Alonso said.

He added that the pair provide balance both in possession and defensively, helping to strengthen Chelsea’s midfield and support the rest of the team.

“They can play in shorter spaces, but as well defensively, they give good balance. For me, it’s fundamental that we get that area strong,” the Chelsea boss explained.

Alonso also noted that Henderson had played only his second game, while Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Valentin Barco had also contributed in midfield. He stressed that Chelsea must continue building and improving their options in that area.
