Chelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper Emi Martinez will now wear the club’s No.1 shirt following the departure of Robert Sanchez.

Martinez joined Chelsea from Aston Villa last week and was immediately handed his debut against Brighton. The Argentina international started the game, while Sanchez was left out of the squad.

Sanchez has since completed a season-long loan move to Italian club Como, leaving the No.1 shirt available for Martinez.

Martinez previously wore the No.26 shirt after arriving at Stamford Bridge. Following the change, Chelsea have confirmed that he will now take over the club’s traditional No.1 jersey.

The goalkeeper has also agreed to sign all “Martinez 26” shirts purchased through the official Chelsea Megastore or the club’s official website.

Supporters who bought the No.26 shirts can take them to Stamford Bridge, along with proof of purchase, to have them signed by Martinez.
