EPL: Mourinho reveals Man City manager he helped win title
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he played a role in helping Manuel Pellegrini win the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2014.
Pellegrini was managing Manchester City at the time, while Mourinho was in his second spell as Chelsea boss. The two clubs were not competing directly for the title, as City and Liverpool were involved in a tense battle for the league trophy.
One of the major moments in the title race came when Chelsea defeated Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield. The result helped Manchester City move closer to winning the Premier League.
Mourinho, who will face Pellegrini again this weekend when Real Madrid take on Real Betis, was asked about his relationship with the Chilean manager.
“I said dumb words about him in the past, that I regret. And he’ll probably laugh if he hears me say this, I paid it well.
“I gave him the Premier League he won with Manchester City.
“Because if Liverpool had drawn with Chelsea two games from the end, he would have been champion. I paid it well.”
