EPL: Why We Lost 3-0 To Man City – Liverpool Manager Iraola
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has blamed Ryan Gravenberch’s red card for changing the course of their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. The result handed Liverpool their first Premier League loss of the season.
The Reds held City to a goalless first half, with both teams competing closely before the match took a different turn after the break.
Gravenberch was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Liverpool with ten men and making their task against the reigning English heavyweights more difficult.
Manchester City took advantage of their numerical advantage, with Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki all finding the net in the second half.
The victory also allowed City to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League campaign, while Liverpool were left to reflect on a disappointing afternoon.
Speaking after the match, Iraola explained how the dismissal affected his team’s performance. “There were two different games: one until the red card, and then one after,” he told reporters.

The Liverpool manager praised his players’ efforts before the sending-off but admitted City were superior afterwards. “For 60 minutes, the players were very good. The second game from the red card was where City were better than us,” Iraola said.
