Five Students Kidnapped As Gunmen Attack Ogun Polytechnic Hostel
Suspected gunmen have abducted five students following an attack on a private hostel near Gateway ICT Polytechnic (GAPOSA) in Saapade, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday evening at a private student hostel located along Paraga Road in Ipara-Remo, a community close to the institution.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the hostel at about 8 p.m., fired several gunshots and operated for nearly 30 minutes before escaping with the victims.
In response to the attack, the management of Gateway ICT Polytechnic suspended all examinations scheduled for Thursday.
In a notice to students, the school said Thursday’s exams had been cancelled due to the incident, while Friday’s examinations would go on as planned unless a new announcement was made. Students were also urged to remain calm and continue preparing for their exams.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) confirmed that five students were kidnapped during the attack.
The union explained that the affected hostel is located in a remote area surrounded by thick bushes, making it vulnerable to criminal attacks.
According to the SUG, although the gunmen fired several shots, no student was killed during the incident. Some students reportedly escaped by breaking through the hostel’s POP ceiling, while others could not flee before the attackers struck.
The union said the case had been reported to the police and other security agencies, expressing confidence that efforts were underway to rescue the abducted students.
The student body also appealed to the public to ignore false and exaggerated reports circulating online, stressing that only verified information should be shared to avoid unnecessary panic.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command said it had launched a coordinated operation involving tactical teams and intelligence officers to rescue the victims and arrest those responsible.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said investigations were still ongoing and that authorities had yet to confirm the exact number and identities of those abducted.
The attack comes barely 24 hours after a final-year female Marketing student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, was reportedly killed during an overnight robbery in the Eruku area of Ogun State.
