LaLiga: ‘He’s Not There’ – Sergio Picos Slams Ademola Lookman After Atletico’s 1-0 Win At Espanyol
Atletico Madrid insider Sergio Picos has criticised Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman following the club’s 1-0 victory over Espanyol in LaLiga on Saturday at the RCDE Stadium.
Lookman was substituted at half-time for the second consecutive Spanish top-flight match, with manager Diego Simeone bringing on Argentina international Julián Alvarez in his place.
Alvarez played a key role in Atletico’s victory, providing the assist for Álex Baena, who scored the decisive goal in the 89th minute.
Lookman has struggled to rediscover his best form this season, recording just two goal contributions in 11 appearances across all competitions.
In his player ratings for AS, Picos questioned the Nigerian international’s confidence and criticised his reluctance to take on opposing defenders during the first half.
“He’s not there. He had the opportunity in the starting eleven, but he doesn’t look confident taking on defenders,” Picos wrote.
He added: “Furthermore, he demonstrates insufficient dynamism and movement that could provide his team with an alternative attacking option. He remained notably quiet throughout the first half before his substitution. He needs to improve.”
