LaLiga: Why I Substituted Vinicius Jr Against Elche – Mourinho
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has explained why he substituted Vinicius Junior during their 3-2 victory over Elche in LaLiga on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian winger was replaced by Brahim Diaz in the 68th minute after putting in a strong defensive shift for Madrid.
Vinicius failed to score in the encounter, while Carlos Espi later scored the winning goal to ensure Real Madrid secured all three points.
Madrid had taken control of the game after Matias Dituro’s own goal gave them the lead before Kylian Mbappe doubled their advantage.
However, Elche fought back through Abiel Osorio and Fer Nino, who scored to bring the hosts level and make the game difficult for Madrid.
“Vinicius Jr did a great job defensively, he helped us a lot,” Mourinho said, praising the forward’s contribution to the team.

“He was very tired at the end, that’s why I subbed him out,” the Real Madrid manager added, explaining that fatigue was the reason for the substitution.
