Six people, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje.

According to the statement, the accident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

Nguroje said, “Preliminary findings reveal that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipping over and bursting into flames.

“Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision.”

The police spokesperson disclosed that preliminary identification showed that four of the victims were serving members of the National Youth Service Corps posted to Adamawa State.

Two of the deceased were identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State. The identities of the remaining victims have yet to be confirmed.

Nguroje also stated that one military personnel attached to the military vehicle died as a result of the crash.

“The corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families,” the police said.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps, and everyone affected by the tragic incident.

A 50-year-old accountant, Olusola Ajayi Joshua, has been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, nearly a year after he allegedly fled Nigeria while under investigation for a burglary case involving property worth more than N150 million.

The arrest was made through a joint effort between the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command and the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).

The case began after a petition dated July 11, 2025, was submitted to the Office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos. The petitioner reported that unknown individuals had broken into her residence on Sesayon Street in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Ikeja, and stolen household items and other valuables valued at over N150 million.

The woman alleged that Joshua, who had worked as an accountant in her late father’s company for more than 17 years, and six other individuals, may have been connected to the burglary.

According to her, she had given Joshua a spare key to the apartment in 2022 so he could access the property when necessary, especially during the rainy season, to help clear water caused by roof leakages.

She said that when she visited the apartment in July 2025, she discovered it had been broken into and several valuable items were missing.

Following the complaint, detectives attached to the Zonal Servicom Team, formerly known as the Zonal Strike Force Team, launched an investigation. Their efforts led to the arrest of six suspects who allegedly had access to the residence.

The six suspects were later arraigned in court after investigations were completed.

Police said further investigations revealed that Joshua, who also had access to the property, travelled to Canada in July 2025 shortly after the alleged burglary and was subsequently declared wanted.

Speaking while parading the suspect, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, said repeated attempts to get Joshua to cooperate with investigators were unsuccessful.

According to Jimoh, the command sought INTERPOL’s assistance on July 16, 2025, which resulted in the suspect’s international travel documents being placed on a watchlist.

The police chief disclosed that INTERPOL operatives in Lagos arrested Joshua at about 9:30 p.m. on June 1, 2026, immediately after he arrived in Nigeria.

He added that the suspect was formally handed over to the Zone 2 Headquarters on June 2, 2026, and is currently undergoing further investigation ahead of possible prosecution.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Johnson Elleh for allegedly producing and circulating a misleading video that falsely claimed there were kidnapping and banditry activities along the Owode-Idiroko axis of Ogun State.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this on Wednesday.

According to Babaseyi, the police immediately reviewed the viral video and launched an investigation to verify the claims being circulated.

He said the investigation revealed that the video was false, misleading, and intentionally created to spread fear, panic, and anxiety among members of the public.

Babaseyi stated:

“Extensive investigation and verification further established that there was no kidnapping or banditry incident as portrayed in the video within the Owode-Idiroko axis or its environs.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect was featured in the video and was subsequently identified by detectives, leading to his arrest.

“Preliminary findings indicate that he deliberately fabricated and circulated the false narrative for attention and content creation purposes.”

The police spokesperson noted that the suspect’s actions had the potential to cause unnecessary public alarm, disrupt social order, and weaken public confidence in the state’s security system.

He added that the suspect would be charged to court once investigations are completed.

The Command also warned individuals and groups against spreading false security information, stressing that offenders would be prosecuted according to the law.

“The Command will continue to identify, arrest, investigate, and prosecute all persons found culpable, irrespective of status or motive.

“Residents are encouraged to remain calm, continue their lawful activities without fear, and rely solely on verified information disseminated through official channels,” Babaseyi added.
