Odumodublvck Sparks Reactions After Asking President Tinubu For Grant

Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has sparked mixed reactions after asking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide financial assistance to him and other entertainers.

The rapper made the request on Friday while reacting to a post on President Tinubu’s X handle about his meeting with entertainment and media executive Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group in Paris. The meeting focused on expanded investment in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy.

Odumodublvck urged President Tinubu not only to express pride in the global recognition the Nigerian entertainment industry has received but also to provide financial support for artistes.

He wrote, “Baba come give boys advance from government funds. Na you go be the biggest label boss. Because of you, artists no go fight their labels and underground artists go see something.

“Baba, come sign all of us. And I mean all of us.”

The request attracted criticism from some fans, who questioned why the rapper chose to appeal to the President for financial support while, according to them, remaining silent on issues such as insecurity and hardship in the country.

Responding to his critics, Odumodublvck argued that artistes rarely benefit directly from government support compared with civil servants and business owners, who he said receive certain forms of assistance.

He said he had yet to see an artiste who received government financial support to make an album, despite the international recognition Nigerian entertainers, particularly musicians, have brought to the country.

“Jaga [Jagaban], give me to fly high. I deserve it, sir. Governmental backing for artists gatts dey,” he added.

Odumodublvck’s request has also drawn attention because of his previous comments about political campaigns. In April 2025, he claimed that he had turned down what he described as “life-changing” money to campaign against Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

His latest appeal to President Tinubu has therefore prompted further discussion online about his position on political engagement and government support for entertainers.
