EPL: Gary Lineker Pinpoints One Major Problem Alonso Needs To Address At Chelsea

Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has identified Chelsea’s defensive problems as one of the major issues new manager Xabi Alonso needs to address at Stamford Bridge.

According to Lineker, Alonso must improve the Blues’ defence if he wants to build a successful team at Chelsea.

Alonso was appointed Chelsea’s new head coach at the end of last season and has overseen seven matches across all competitions so far.

During those seven games, Alonso’s team have recorded four victories, two defeats and one draw as they continue to adapt to his methods.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker stressed the importance of having a strong defence.

“The basis of any successful team is to have a solid defence,” Lineker said.

“You can’t score three or four in every game. That is something Alonso needs to address. He will be given plenty of time, I would hope,” the former England striker added.
