EPL: Why Man Utd Is Struggling This Season Under Carrick – Troy Deeney

Watford legend Troy Deeney has explained why Manchester United are struggling under manager Michael Carrick at the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

United currently sit 12th in the Premier League table after five matches, with one win, two draws and two defeats.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney claimed Carrick’s decision to bring Marcus Rashford into the starting lineup has affected the team’s balance.

“I will make it sound like it’s a Marcus Rashford thing, but you had something that worked, with Cunha, Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, and it’s just that number nine, that is an issue,” Deeney said.

“Sesko’s out, and now you are messing with the thing that was working to appease Marcus Rashford, who, by the way, has been bang average.”

“I think the part of the problem is that you have gone back to the cycle again. Rashford wasn’t in your plans,” Deeney added.

Rashford is yet to score or provide an assist for Manchester United this season after returning from his loan spell at Barcelona, where he failed to secure a permanent transfer at the end of last season.
