UCL: Thierry Henry Speaks On Man United’s Chances Of Challenging For Trophy

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Manchester United’s upcoming games will provide a better indication of whether they can challenge for the Champions League trophy this season.

United returned to the competition for the first time since 2023 and started their campaign with an impressive 4-0 victory over Azerbaijani side Sabah.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring before Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko quickly added two more goals before half-time. Lisandro Martinez later completed the scoring in the second half.

Henry believes United’s next major tests against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid will show more about their true quality.

He told CBS Sports: “That was the perfect game to have at home to start the Champions League and be back in it.”

“At the weekend [against Manchester City], that’s when you can see what that team is, and then after, we can have a confirmation maybe after against Atletico Madrid [in matchday three]. But we will see.”

“It’s too early. It’s very difficult to know. Some players left at half-time. Not everybody started because you play City at the weekend. But look, they played against Sabah, they won.”

United will face Manchester City this weekend before meeting Atletico Madrid next month, with both matches expected to give a clearer picture of their Champions League ambitions.
