Nigerian Languages Don’t Have Any Benefits – Peter Okoye Claims
Afrobeats singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has sparked reactions after claiming that Nigeria’s indigenous languages do not offer much benefit.
The former P-Square member made the comment after a fan asked whether his children could speak Igbo, following his post praising their fluency in French.
Peter, who is currently on vacation in Paris, France, shared on X that watching his children speak French so confidently made him consider buying a house in the city.
“Still in Paris! Watching my kids speak French so effortlessly makes me think… maybe it’s time to own a crib here in Paris,” he wrote.
A fan then asked, “Hope they can speak Igbo, too?”
Responding, Peter wrote, “And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”
His comment quickly sparked criticism on social media, with many accusing him of disrespecting Nigerian languages despite using Igbo, Yoruba and other local languages in his songs and benefiting from their popularity.
